Ellen O'Neill Deitrich | Director of College Counseling

Ellen O’Neill Deitrich joined The Hill community as Director of College Counseling in July 2016. Her previous roles include associate director of college counseling and grade dean at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr; director of college counseling at Woodlynde School in Strafford; and assistant director of college counseling and history teacher at the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia. Ellen is a past president of the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling (PACAC), has served on the President’s Council of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC), and was recently appointed to a three-year term on NACAC’s Governance and Nominating Committee. She has been a member of the advisory boards at several different colleges, and in 2015 was awarded PACAC’s Delwin K. Gustafson Award for dedicated service to students, the profession, and PACAC. Ellen and her husband, Norm, have three sons: Jake, Sean, and Alex.

Beth Allain, Assistant Director of College Counseling and Head Girls' Golf Coach

Beth arrived at The Hill with her family in 2000. Prior to The Hill, Beth worked as a television sports anchor and reporter at the CBS affiliate in Dallas/Fort Worth, Tex. where she covered the market’s professional teams, PGA Tour events, and the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. The Richmond, Va. native graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Rhetoric and Communications. She joined the College Counseling Office in 2012 and also serves as head coach of the varsity girls’ golf team.

Lauren Hoyt | Senior Associate Director of College Counseling

Originally hailing from Pittsburgh, Pa., Lauren attended Bryn Mawr College, where she worked in Residential Life upon graduation. After two years, she wanted to experience something completely new and left to attend graduate school at The Ohio State University. While in graduate school, she worked in Student Affairs at the university, where her focus was on providing academic and enrichment opportunities for students living in residence halls. After receiving her master's degree in higher education administration, Lauren felt pulled to return to the small liberal arts college environment and took a job in Residential Life at Vassar College. Fueled by a desire to work more individually with students, Lauren transitioned to the secondary side as the director of college counseling at Oakwood Friends School and remained there for seven years. Lauren has been a member of the College Counseling team since 2013 and assumed the role of Senior Associate Director in 2017. She also is a dorm affiliate in Upper School East, involved in the after-school community service program, and a faculty adviser to the Inclusion Council and HASOGI.

Jade Johnson | Assistant Director of College Counseling and Testing Coordinator

Jade arrived at The Hill in the fall of 2018. She is a graduate of Penn State Berks and holds an M.Ed. from Kutztown University. Jade previously worked as an assistant director of diversity recruitment at Lehigh University, covering the Philadelphia, New York, and Southern California regions. Prior to working at Lehigh, Jade was an admissions recruiter at Kutztown University from 2013-16. Jade’s husband, James, joins her at The Hill.

Scott Kominkiewicz II | Assistant Director of College Counseling

Scott arrived at Hill in the fall of 2018. Originally from East Brunswick, N.J., he earned his B.A. in history and anthropology & sociology from Lafayette College, graduating magna cum laude in 2012. As a student at Lafayette, Scott got his first taste of college admissions as a senior interviewer. After graduating from Lafayette, he spent two years teaching English in Japan before beginning his career in college admissions. He spent one year as an application reviewer at Princeton University and was a senior admissions counselor at Vanderbilt since 2015 prior to Hill. Scott currently is pursuing a master’s of education from Vanderbilt. In addition to his primary role in The Hill's College Counseling Office, he looks forward to assisting with the indoor and outdoor track and field teams. Scotty resides on campus with his wife, Ayako, and their infant son, Shohei.

Michael Murphy | Student-Athlete College Counselor, Head Boys' Lacrosse Coach

Having spent the past 22 years as a collegiate lacrosse coach, Mike joined The Hill community in 2018 as a student-athlete college counselor and head boys’ lacrosse coach. For the last seven years, Mike was the head men’s lacrosse coach at Colgate University, and he previously was an assistant coach at West Point for eight years, Denison University for two years, and several other universities. A native of Beverly, Mass., Mike attended the University of New Hampshire, where he was a four-year member of the Wildcats’ men’s lacrosse team. Having been a college lacrosse coach since his graduation from U.N.H., Mike is looking forward to working with high school-aged students. Mike has been a NCAA certified recruiter since 2003 and will leverage his extensive NCAA experience to provide our student-athletes with invaluable guidance as they navigate the complex college athletic recruiting process. Mike and his wife, Jen, have two children, Colin and Dylan.
