Hill debuts children's play "Cane Tales"

The talented cast of Cane Tales

Today, Wednesday, November 2, The Hill School’s Ellis Theater Guild debuted the children's play Cane Tales for a special perfomance for local elementary schools. Following the play, students in kindergarten, first, and second grade at St. Aloysius School in Pottstown stayed on campus for a meet-and-greet with the cast of the play as well as a special perfomance by The Hill School Orchestra. View more photos here.

The play will open for the public on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m. A matinee showing will be held on Sunday, November 6 at 2 p.m. All performances are free of charge and will take place in the theatre of the Center For The Arts.

Cane Tales is performed in a “storyteller’s theatre” format. Played on a simple set, a cane is passed from storyteller to storyteller as each competes to outdo the other by dramatizing stories inspired by the cane. The cane is physically changed by each story, much like we are changed by our own life experiences. The script was inspired by a series of original stories created by Mr. Burt Merriam, Hill's director of the Center For The Arts. Mr. Merriam has performed these stories for young audiences throughout the mid-Atlantic region during the past 10 years. The play is directed by Mike McKibben, technical administrator for the CFTA.
