On Saturday, November 5, the varsity boys' soccer team defeated visiting Episcopal Academy 4-1 and the varsity girls' soccer team defeated Germantown Friends School 3-0 to advance to the semi-final round of the PAISAA Tournament. Both semi-final matches are on Tuesday, November 8. The boys' travel to Malvern Prep, and the girls will visit top-seeded Germantown Academy. Both matches begin at 3 p.m.
The boys' improved to 14-3-1 on the season (4-0 MAPL) and extended their unbeaten streak to 11 matches with a convincing 4-1 victory. Brian Sachs '12 and Alex Evans '12 scored first half goals three minutes apart, and Colten Habecker '14 added a pair of second half goals to give Hill a 4-0 lead. Episcopal scored on a set piece late in the second half to make the score 4-1, but did not manage many scoring opportunities on the day.
A two-goal performance from Lizzie Sullivan '12 propelled the girls' to a 3-0 victory over Germantown Friends School. The victory extended the team's winning streak to 12 matches and improved their overall record to 15-2-1 (4-0 MAPL). Mary Edwards '12 assisted on both of Sullivan's goals, and Deanna Mayza '13 also scored for the girls'. Defenders Shannon Ruane '12, Megan Ruane '13, Emily Sitko '13, Keeley Spiess '14, Courtney Logar '15 and goalkeeper Julia Hernan '15 worked well together to contain the GFS attack and helped the team post its ninth shutout of the season.
Also noteworthy is that both teams will be playing for the MAPL Championship on Saturday, November 12 at Lawrenceville. A victory over the Big Red would give the boys' their fifth MAPL Championship and their first outright title since 2005 (the team was 2007 co-champions), and a girls' victory would earn the team its second consecutive MAPL Championship. Both matches at Lawrenceville begin at 1:30 p.m.
