Students "bang spoons" under the Hill vs. L'Ville dorm banners in the Dining Room
The Hill School campus was abuzz during The Hill v. Lawrenceville Week 2011, which was celebrated Wednesday, November 9 through Saturday, November 12, in a continuation of one of the oldest high school athletics rivalries in the country that dates back to 1887.
Spirit week began on campus on Wednesday, November 9 and featured a series of "theme days," including:

Dougherty Day on Friday.
In honor of Headmaster and Mrs. Dougherty, students will wear bow ties, a collared shirt and blue jeans, or track suits/running clothes. VIEW PHOTOS!
In addition to the theme days, students participated in the annual tradition of spoon banging before seated meals. The pep rally and bonfire were held Friday night after the Red Meat seated dinner, the only Friday seated dinner of the year. View photos from the

Friday night also featured the fifth annual Alumni Red Meat Dinner, which was held at the Union League in Philadelphia. Generously hosted by Mr. Thomas Ruth, faculty
emeritus, this year's dinner featured guest speakers Mr. Tom Walter '87, head baseball coach at Wake Forest University who made national headlines in February for the heroic act of donating a kidney to one of his baseball players, and Hill Athletics Director Mr. Seth Eilberg.

Mr. Walter was a guest at lunch on Friday, November 11. Dan Kleinhenn '12, captain of the varsity baseball team, introduced Mr. Wolter.

The JV football team kicked off Hill/Lawrenceville week athletic contests with a hard-fought 8-8 tie in their annual Monday game against the Big Red. The rest of the games took place at Lawrenceville on Saturday, November 12. The highlights of the day were the varsity boys' and girls' soccer teams clinching the MAPL Championship with their respective results against L'ville.
