The boys' varsity basketball team finished in second place in the 42nd annual Mercer Inivitational Tournament, held at The Hill from Friday, December 16 through Sunday, December 18. Hill dropped an exciting championship game to three-time defending champion New Hampton School 52-47.
New Hampton started the game by making five consecutive three-pointers to build an early 15-2 lead. A 10-4 run by Hill made the score 19-10 after the first quarter, and after an evenly played second quarter New Hampton took a 37-23 lead into halftime. Hill increased its defensive pressure in the second half and chipped away at the defecit, and led by co-captain Josh Heyliger's nine third-quarter points, made the score 44-38 heading into the final quarter. Hill scored the first five points of the final frame to make it a one point game, and had possession with the score 50-47 in the final minute, but could not complete the comeback. Congratulations to New Hampton for their well-earned tournament victory.
