Boys' Cross Country: Chris Delucia

Chris DeLucia is the head coach of the boys’ cross country program. He has worked with boys’ cross country since the fall of 2002, and with track since arriving at The Hill in 1999. Prior to The Hill, Chris worked as a technology specialist in Maine, developing collaborative software projects among foreign language faculty at Colby, Bates, and Bowdoin Colleges. He has a master’s degree in international studies, with a focus on Chinese history, and several years of further work in Chinese language and literature (ABD), at the University of Washington. Chris teaches Chinese language at The Hill. Chris ran cross country and track in high school, and cross country in college.

Girls' Cross Country: Dan McMains '98  
Dan graduated from The Hill in 1998 where he earned varsity letters in cross country, and indoor and outdoor track and field. He was a member of an undefeated track team and Trophy Room cross country team his senior year. After graduating from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, Dan coached track and cross country at Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge, La., where his teams won four State Championships, three District Track Championships, and three Regional Track championships in two years. Dan returned to The Hill in 2005 and served as the assistant boys' cross country coach before taking over the girls' program in 2010.  He also coaches distance runners on the winter track team. 

 

Field Hockey: Julie deLaurentis  

Coach deLaurentis arrived at The Hill as the Assistant Director of Athletics in 2011 and immediately became the head varsity field hockey coach. She graduated from The Peddie School in 2005 following an outstanding athletic career in which she earned 10 varsity letters and served as a two-year captain for both the field hockey and softball teams; in 2009, she earned a spot on the All-Decade First Team for New Jersey field hockey. After graduating from Peddie, she attended Muhlenberg College and was a four-year starter on the field hockey team, serving as a team captain in her senior season and winning the team’s Player’s Player award twice. She graduated from Muhlenberg in 2009 and spent the next two years as an assistant field hockey coach at Hartwick College, helping guide the Hawks to a 13-5 record and a runner-up finish in the ECAC tournament in 2009.

Football: Grey Simpson  

After spending six years in public and parochial education in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Coach Simpson arrived at The Hill in 2004. After graduating from Dunmore High School in 1994, he went on to study chemistry and play football at Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, graduating in 1998. While teaching, coaching, and working in high school administration in South Florida, he completed his M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University. At The Hill, Coach Simpson serves as both the head football and head girls’ basketball coach, and is an instructor of chemistry.

Boys' Soccer: Chris Drowne '89  

A goalkeeper on The Hill’s undefeated 1988 squad, Chris Drowne ‘89 took over as head boys' soccer coach in 2006 after having spent 13 years as assistant to the Rev. John Bensinger. After The Hill, Coach Drowne earned his B.A. from Bucknell University and M.A. from Villanova University. He is the McNally Chair of History and the Knobloch Chair of Economics. He teaches AP European history and world history, and serves as head varsity baseball coach. In addition to his experience at The Hill, Coach Drowne played his club soccer for the New York Athletic Club and has competed as a player or coach in Botswana, Spain, Portugal, Scotland and England. He earned his coaching license from the English FA and has served as a staff coach for a number of soccer camps.

Boys' Water Polo: Doug Jones  

Doug joined the Hill faculty in August of 2006 and currently serves as a counselor, instructor of Psychology, and the head coach of boys’ water polo. He attended Hill’s perennial rival, Lawrenceville, where he lettered in swimming and water polo. In 1993, Doug graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in psychology, and was a four-year starter and senior captain for the water polo team. He also earned Mid-Atlantic Conference all-tournament team and all-academic honors. For five years, he served as the head coach of both swimming and girls’ water polo at Saratoga High School in California and also coached water polo at the University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University (NAU), and Macalester College. He earned a master’s degree in counseling from NAU and has worked with at-risk high school students and in a college counseling center.

Girls' Water Polo: Tom Johnson  

Coach Johnson graduated from Princeton University in 2000 with an A.B. degree in politics and earned his master's degree in educational leadership at Villanova University in 2005. He came to The Hill in 2000 to serve as the director of student activities and moved to the classroom full time as an instructor of history in 2004, focusing on world history and United States history. In 2011, he was appointed as the Dean of Faculty. In addition to being the head girls' water polo coach, Coach Johnson also is the head varsity softball coach, and spent several years coaching girls' basketball.
