Ellen Nelson (center) with members of the PAAG in The Hill School Dining Room
On Tuesday, February 21, 2012, Ellen Nelson, Hill School instructor of the arts, offered a tour and history lesson of the School's treasured collection of original N.C. Wyeth paintings to the Pottstown Area Artists Guild. The beautiful paintings that grace the wall of the School's Dining Room were featured in "Poems of American Patriotism," published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1922.
The paintings were purchased by former Hill physical education director Michael F. Sweeney, who donated the works to The Hill in 1923. He explained his generosity with the simple words, "The Hill has done great things for me; I should like to do something for The Hill." The result has been that generations of Hill students have been inspired by these beautiful, patriotic images
