This year for the boys’ team promises to be a test of wills as a core of older athletes will be counted on to lead a larger group of young athletes. The team will depend on 6th former Quinn Davis and 4th former Braden Cordivari to lead the distance and middle distance squads. Newcomer Kwame Larbi '12 will be heavily depended on to lead the hurdle and jumping events along with surprise talent Jerome Alexander '12. Larbi will have to do relay duty as well when needed. The sprinting squad will rely heavily on 6th former Ben Wong and a host of young talent. The throws will be led by two returning athletes in 6th former Seth Reinhardt and 4th former Brandt Beck, and several newcomers who have shown tremendous potential in the early season practices. Overall, the team should be able to post a competitive record and have a hugely successful season.
The girls’ team has seen a huge resurgence of young talent to support a wily group of veterans. The distance squad will be led by 6th former Kathryn Walsh, 5th former Kim Breeding, and 3rd form phenom Monica Redfern. The sprint squad returns two four-year veterans in Amy Amuquandoh and Cat Andersen. Multi-sport talents Mary Edwards '12 and Lizzie Sullivan ’12 bring tremendous athleticism to the team and will be counted on in multiple events. The hurdles will be three deep but depend on 6th former Katharine Quain to lead. Field events will be a challenge for the girls’ team due to inexperience, as Andersen is the only returning jumper and no throwers return this season, although 4th former Funmi Lawal and PG Claire Maree O’Bryan have quickly picked up the throwing fundamentals and should be very competitive by the Championship meets.
The teams open up the season with the annual Hill Relays on Saturday, March 31 and then will have two full weeks of practice before the Pottstown Night Classic and Mercersburg Quad Meet on April 13 and 14, respectively. Other schedule highlights include trips to the Penn Relays on April 27-29; a night meet under the lights at Blair Academy on May 5; and the MAPL and PAISAA Championships on May 12 and 16.
