The Hill School is pleased to announce that John Dollhopf will serve as Hill's Interim Academic Dean beginning this July. Since arriving at The Hill in 1997, John has conscientiously prepared for this leadership role as a classroom teacher, mathematics department chair, Honor Council chair, Faculty Council member, and Strategic Planning Committee co-chair.

In addition to holding mathematics degrees from Haverford College and Pennsylvania State University, John recently earned his master of education degree in Private School Leadership at the Klingenstein Center at the Columbia University Teachers College, where his work included a study of intra-departmental conversation and the effects of close teacher-student relationships found in boarding schools.

In addition to overseeing the ongoing responsibilities of the Academic Office, John will spearhead the upcoming review and “mission-driven restructuring” of Hill’s educational program, academic calendar, and weekly schedule as called for by our new strategic plan. John’s experience with and immersion in contemporary educational issues through his work at Hill, his graduate study, and his regular attendance at regional and national school conferences all make him uniquely qualified for this role.

John’s wife, Elizabeth Dollhopf, also is a mathematics teacher at Hill. The Dollhopfs are dormitory parents in Dell Village. They have two young sons, William and Patrick.

Current Dean of Academics Kathryn Malone, Ph.D. recently was appointed as the next Elizabeth B. Blossom Chair of Humanities following Dr. Henry Bender's retirement in July. Kathy arrived at The Hill School in 1999 and for the last 14 years has served the School as an instructor of history and American Studies, dean of academics, dorm parent, and field hockey and lacrosse coach.

Please join The Hill’s Trustees, administration, faculty, and staff in congratulating John and Kathy on these appointments.
