Hill celebrates the end of the 2011-12 school year

Students say farewell to David and Kay Dougherty

The Hill School's 161st school year officially came to a close this morning, June 1, 2012, with our annual Closing Ceremonies. Ted Poatsy '13, rising president of the Student Government Association, addressed his classmates and reflected on this past year. Listen to Ted's talk here.

The Deans' Office acknowledged the third, fourth, and fifth form students who earned bronze, silver, and gold medals for having limited or no demerits throughout the year. In honor of those faculty members who will not return next year, students offered tributes to those men and women who were their teachers, advisers, dorm parents, coaches, and friends. Listen to the tributes here.

Headmaster David R. Dougherty welcomed everyone to the Closing Ceremonies for the 2011-12 school year, the 161st in the history of The Hill School. He then did what the members of the fifth form class had been eagerly anticipating; he invited them to take the seats in the Chapel traditionally occupied by the sixth formers. Headmaster Dougherty shared milestone moments of his career and his great affection for The Hill community. Listen to Headmaster Dougherty's talk here.

Following the singing of “A Thousand Hands,” The Rev. Dr. John Houghton led the benediction. The students then gathered on the Quad to say good-bye to one another and their teachers.
