Maddison Marcheskie '14 had never played water polo before she entered The Hill as a third former in the fall of 2011. She arrived at The Hill somewhat familiar with the game, having watched her older sister, Lyndsey '12, play for two seasons. It didn't take Maddison very long to get the hang of the game once she started playing. She set the third-form scoring record with 25 goals in 2010, and in 2011 nearly quadrupled her previous season's scoring output as she exploded for 90 goals, which ranks second all-time in program history for single-season goals. She recently was named to the USA Water Polo Association’s All-American honorable mention for Zone 1, which encompasses all of the Northeast from Maine to Ohio. Maddison becomes the third Hill girls' water polo player to earn All-American status, joining Jodi Calvario '03 and Allie Shomber '08.
“Maddison didn’t start the sport until she got here as a ninth-grader, and she’s already the best player on our team,” said head coach Tom Johnson in an interview with Rosemarie Ross of The Pottstown Mercury. “She picked it up very quickly and was a starter immediately. She set a school record for the most goals by a third former, and most for a fourth former, and is on pace to become the all-time leading scorer in the program.”
