The Hill School offers a variety of ways for parents to get involved life at the School. Committing to be a parent volunteer will give you an opportunity to become better acquainted with your child’s classmates and experience life at our “Family Boarding School.” Our parent volunteers are an important part of The Hill family and culture, and each parent volunteer is essential to the School’s current and future success.

Admission Open House: Parents are invited to greet and speak with prospective families visiting The Hill School.
Athletics Parent Volunteer: With 29 varsity sports programs and a robust fitness-centered intramural program, our coaches are always looking for support. You can volunteer to be a team parent or offer to help the team parent organize volunteers, provide refreshments for games, and assist with end-of-the-season celebrations.
Career Day Speaker: During the spring term, the School hosts Career Day which is an opportunity for parents and alumni to visit The Hill School and provide insight to students about their careers. We are always looking for innovative speakers to help our students learn and grow.
Community Service: Assists with the School’s community service programs. Parents can help out in a variety of ways on one-time and on-going service projects. Although service opportunities are available throughout the academic year, The Hill School generally designates one day per term as “Community Day.”
Food Fair: Hosted by the Cooking Club, the Food Fair is held each year in January. Students, parents, and faculty team up to cook specialty foods ranging from ethnic cuisine, desserts, pizza, and more, all of which are served during the Fair.
Headmaster’s Coffee: These sessions provide an opportunity for informal dialogue and idea sharing between current parents and Headmaster, Zack Lehman. Parents are invited to host, organize, and greet other parents.
Host Family Program: Families living in the Tri-County area often host Hill international students. This is a rewarding opportunity and provides hospitality and support to students far from home.
Lawrenceville Weekend: The Hill School rivalry with the Lawrenceville School dates back to 1887 and is the fifth oldest school rivalry in the country. Each year, The Hill and Lawrenceville alternate hosting a Saturday afternoon of athletics competition. Usually held in early November, this day marks for most sports teams the end of the fall sports season. Parents can offer to greet, host and/or work the parent and alumni hospitality tent, and provide snacks or baked goods.
Parent Fund Form Chair: Partner with the Advancement Office to help raise funds to ensure each student has an exceptional learning experience in the classroom, on the stage, in the dormitories, and on the playing field. Responsibilities may include letter writing, event hosting, phone calls, and peer-to-peer solicitation.
Parent Partners: Work with Student Life to partner every new family entering Hill with an existing Hill family to serve as a contact and resource for questions that arise before and throughout their first year at the School.
Sixth Form Dance: This formal dance, held annually the Saturday prior to Commencement, is open to all fifth and sixth formers and their dates. The dance, which alternates between being held on-campus and at an off-campus location every other year, includes hors d'oeuvres, photos, a served dinner, and dancing. Parents are invited to share in the planning, decorating, set-up, and clean-up.
Strawberry Festival: Held annually on the final Wednesday of the school year, Strawberry Festival is an outdoor gathering that includes games, music, food, student sales, yearbook distribution, and the J-Ball final, all with a great atmosphere. It is eagerly anticipated by sixth formers as one of their last great opportunities to hang out together. Parents can help cut strawberries the night before, or serve strawberry shortcake during the festival.
Support for the Arts: Volunteers provide support for all students and faculty of the visual and performing arts at The Hill School, including theatre, fine arts, instrumental, and vocal music. Parents may be asked to provide refreshments at practices, help with costumes, take orders for CDs, and serve as docents for art shows.
Volunteer Admission Network (VAN): VAN is a group of Hill alumni, parents, and friends who attend events, make targeted commitment calls during February, and greets and welcomes prospective students and their families to the Admission Office during Re-visit Days. Welcome Committee: Parents are asked to help greet other students, parents, grandparents, alumni, and special guests during on-site events; such as theatre productions, Fall Parents Weekend, Grandparents’ Day, Commencement, etc.
