| Friends reconnect on Returning Student Day | Monday, September 3, 2012 marked a very soggy Returning Student Day, but there were still smiles all around as we welcomed home our returning boarding and day students and their families. As returning students were settling in, new students continued their orientation activities which included tech training sessions; the School’s traditional “Letters to Self”—all new students write letters to themselves about what they hope to accomplish while at Hill which are then mailed back to them after their graduation; and meetings with their assigned Hill Big Brother/Big Sister and ice-breaking QR Code campus tour. View photos from Returning Student Day. In the afternoon, Headmaster Lehman delivered remarks to returning students and families. He first introduced the School’s new faculty and staff, followed by his advice for how to prepare for The Hill School journey everyone will take together this year. The School’s 162nd academic year will officially kick-off with this evening Convocation ceremony which will take place at 7 p.m. in the CFTA.

| Headmaster Lehman leads the "good-bye" activity | The Hill welcomed 178 new students and their families to campus on Sunday, September 2, 2012. Students spent the morning and early afternoon moving into their dorms, buying supplies in the Campus Store, and meeting new friends. Headmaster Zack Lehman addressed new students, parents, and faculty in the afternoon and concluded in the Field House where everyone formed a large circle -- student leaders, new students, parents, and faculty had an opportunity to wish each other well for the coming year. After students and parents said good-bye, students went on to enjoy the “Play Fair” while parents attended a reception with faculty members. Additional orientation activities for the evening included an ice cream social and dorm meetings. View additional photos here. International students arrived on at Hill on Saturday, September 1. A special luncheon was held for families of international students and their local host families. View a video of Headmaster Lehman’s remarks from that event. Later that evening, student leaders (prefects, SGA, and Honor Council) attended a dinner with Headmaster Lehman. The excitement on campus continued as more than 200 parents came to campus for a reception with Zack and Amy Lehman.
On Friday, August 31, prefects arrived on campus and spent most of the day participating in team building exercises, followed by a cook-out at the Alumni House with faculty members. They spent part of the day on Saturday immersed in leadership training exercises with other student leaders (SGA and Honor Council) and residential life faculty.
