Fall Parents' Weekend 2009: Photos now available!

The Hill welcomes parents and families of our students to campus for the annual fall Parents' Weekend October 1 through 3, 2009. The activities kicked off Thursday evening with Junior Prize Day at 7:15 p.m. in the CFTA where students received awards for their high academic achievements in each department, as well as induction into the Cum Laude Society. On Friday, parents accompanied their sons or daughters to classes before attending a buffet lunch and the Headmaster's address. Parents of third and fourth form students also had the opportunity to attend a special college advising session on Friday morning. View a video of Ms. Tu's Chinese 2 class singing a Chinese love song, "The Moon Represents My Heart" and dancing with their mothers during Friday's class visit.

The afternoon was dedicated to adviser meetings followed by a faculty and parent reception. The highlight of Friday evening is the Fall Music Festival which will feature performances by the Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Chorus, Glee Club, Hilltones, and Hilltrebles.

On Saturday, parents will again enjoy class visitations, as well as college advising sessions for parents of fifth and sixth form students. Parents of international students are invited to attend a special breakfast, and all parents are encouraged to stop by the Memorial Room in the morning to have coffee with Headmaster David Dougherty.

Parents won't want to miss the keynote speaker scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday in the CFTA.  Dr. James Maas, a Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow, professor, and past chairman of the Department of Psychology at Cornell University and author of the book, Power Sleep, will talk about sleep and the importance of being well-rested. At Hill's opening community meeting on September 8, Dr. Maas spoke to students and faculty about his powerful approach to success through getting the sleep needed to improve mental and physical well-being.

The weekend will commence with athletic competitions around campus. Students will then depart for the long holiday weekend with their parents.

Please check back next week for additional photos.
