Students attend National Model Arab League

On Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, 12 Hill students (Samer Muallem ’09, Sam Ross ’09, Steele Phillips ’09, Mary-Grace Reeder ’09, Lilian Chen ’09, Jess Seman ’09, Melody Chang ’09, TC Flowers ’09, Jin Limb ’11, Malcolm Surer ’11, Felix Kim ’11, Ji Park ’12, and Nora Wagman ’12), and their faculty adviser, Mr. Alexander Washington, attended the 13th National High School Model Arab League in Washington, D.C.

The event was hosted by the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations at Georgetown University. The Hill students represented delegations from Libya and Kuwait in the five committees available: the Joint Defense Council, Council on Palestinian Affairs, Council of Arab Social Affairs Ministers, Council on Political Affairs, and Council of Arab Environmental Affairs Ministers. After their time spent debating in the committee rooms, The Hill students spent Saturday evening seeing the sights of Washington, including both the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials.

According to the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations: Model Arab League is the premier Student Leadership Development Program of the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations. Through Model Arab League students learn about the politics and history of the Arab world and the arts of diplomacy and public speech.
