The Hill School Department of the Arts

Hill student works with a visiting artist in a studio arts class
Students have many opportunities to work with visiting artists

The mission of the arts department at The Hill School is to instill in each student a sense of the joy of creation and the will to strive for excellence in his/her life; build a sense of community through cooperative learning, collaborative activities, and shared experiences; provide Hill students with exposure to, appreciation for, understanding of, and opportunities for practical application in the visual and performing arts; and prepare Hill students for further study and/or participation in the visual and performing arts beyond the secondary educational level.

Arts requirement at The Hill School:

All students who enter The Hill School as third formers (freshmen) must take an introductory course in the History of Art and Music. This is a year-long course and a requirement for graduation.

Students who enter The Hill beyond the third form must take the equivalent of one term of a performing or visual arts course each year they are at The Hill.

Students who have met these requirements at their previous schools may be exempted from the requirement upon the approval of the arts department chair and the director of studies.
