Students celebrate Hill spirit at The Hill vs. Lawrenceville pep rally!
The Hill School strives to provide a thorough offering of weekend activities to its student body. As a boarding school, The Hill recognizes the need for a strong activities program that entertains, engages, and incorporates the interests of the students and faculty. In an attempt to reach this goal, a small committee of devoted students is selected to serve on the Student Activities Committee ("The Dream Team"). Meeting weekly, this body is responsible for the creation, planning and execution of all on and off campus events.
Off-Campus activities include trips to movie theaters, restaurants, and malls; sporting events; amusement parks; outdoor activities (skiing, snow tubing, paintball); and excursions to Baltimore, Philadelphia, the Jersey shore, New York City, and Washington, D.C.
Special on-campus events include concerts, dances, karaoke night, outdoor movie nights, the International Food Fair and Spring Fling, where students participate in school-wide volleyball competitions and rock climbing, listen to live bands, and more. Below are a few of the special on-campus events held annually at The Hill School (view photos of other events by clicking on the links on the left navigation):
Hill vs. Lawrenceville Weekend - The rivalry between The Hill School and The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N.J. stands as one of the oldest continuous competitions between independent schools in this country. The weekend festivities include a pep rally and bonfire at home on Friday night and a continuous schedule of athletics events on Saturday afternoon.
Food Fair - Hosted by the Cooking Club, the Food Fair is held each year in January. Students and faculty team up to cook specialty foods ranging from ethnic cuisine, desserts, pizza, and more. Entrance into the Food Fair is $5 per person and once inside the fair, each person is able to sample as much food as he or she can eat. The money raised at the event is donated to a local charity.
Sixth Form Dinner - This annual event is held during the winter term. Sixth form (senior) students come together for a night of fun with their friends and faculty members. After enjoying a special dinner, the students take to the stage in the CFTA to "fall under the spell" of hypnotist, the Astonishing Neal.
Spring Fling - This annual event takes place on the same weekend as Parents' Weekend in the spring, typically during late April or early May. The event is kicked off by a Saturday night concert and continues with games and music on the Quad on Sunday afternoon. Student bands gear their work toward this date as an opportunity to perform in front of the entire Hill community.
Strawberry Festival - Held annually on the final Wednesday of the school year, Strawberry Festival is an outdoor gathering that includes games, music, food, student sales, yearbook distribution, and the J-Ball final, all with a great atmosphere. It is eagerly anticipated by sixth formers as one of their last great opportunities to hang out together.
Sixth Form Dance - This formal dance, held annually the Saturday prior to commencement, is open to all fifth and sixth formers and their dates. The dance, which alternates between being held on-campus and at an off-campus location every other year, includes hors d'oeuvres, photos, a served dinner, and dancing.
