On Thursday, Jan. 28, the members of Hill's sixth form class gathered in the CFTA for the annual Sixth Form Dinner. This tradition is a special opportunity for the students to come together as a class (and with their teachers) and celebrate their time at Hill, as well as reflect upon their upcoming graduation.
Mrs. Kay Dougherty, dean of the sixth form, asked students to take care of each other during these last few months before graduation, to not stop working hard regardless of college acceptances, and to "slow down and try to spend your last months at Hill taking it all in."
She also reminded them that they were not alone in their journey at The Hill. She remarked, "Do not forget that lots of people got you to this point in your Hill School career; some of them are sitting in this very room...Thank all of them whenever you get a chance."
Also speaking to the class was Mrs. Virginia Yinger, associate director of alumni relations and The Hill Fund, who told the sixth formers they will never truly be gone from The Hill even after they graduate. She said, "You will always have been a Hill student, you will always be a Hill alumnus, and you are always welcome back on campus."
She also encouraged the students to support The Hill and continue to make the School a great place for future students just as alumni have done for them. "The act of supporting The Hill need not solely be monetary, and you do not have to wait until your fifth or even 50th reunion to do so. In fact, you can start your support now." She continued, "They [your class agents] need your support now to help make your class gift one you can all be proud to say is yours. They also will need your support when your time on campus is done to keep you all connected as a class in the future."
With that, Jennifer Kang '10, the newly elected class secretary for the class of 2010, shared her idea for their class gift (a new stand for The Hill School bell) and encouraged her classmates to share their ideas with her. She also emphasized the importance of fundraising efforts led by the sixth form from now until the end of the year to make their gift a reality. "Having 100% class participation is the most important aspect of this gift, as it is the gift from the Class of 2010, so please consider volunteering with a fundraiser."
Following a dinner with friends and faculty, the sixth formers enjoyed an evening of fun with the Astonishing Neal, who hypnotized some of the students on stage in the CFTA and had the audience laughing all night!
