Week of January 16 to 22, 2012

Students took a day away from the classroom on Monday, January 16 to participate in community-oriented activities in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Students had the opportunity to select from 20 different activities that included on-campus clinics and workshops for local children, off-campus volunteer projects, on-campus academic workshops, or field trips. Read more about the day’s activities and view photos from the various events.

The Green Cup Energy Challenge kicked off on Wednesday, January 18. The annual challenge, which runs until February 15, helps raise awareness about sustainability and conserve energy. The challenge officially kicked off during School Meeting period when members of The Green Initiative (Hill's sustainability club) encouraged all students, faculty, and staff to “sign” a pledge to do one simple thing to conserve energy.

Newly elected Headmaster Mr. Zachary Lehman and his family made their first “official” visit to campus from Friday through Sunday. Mr. Lehman addressed the entire Hill Community and the Board of Trustees, who were on campus for the winter Trustee Weekend, in the CFTA on Friday morning. View a video and additional photos of Mr. Lehman’s address.

The weekend brought the first snowstorm of 2012! Saturday night was a “Blue Crew Night” at the varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball games as they squared off against MAPL foe Peddie School. Enthusiastic students showed up in droves for the games and were especially vocal for the boys’ game, as boys’ co-captain Josh Heyliger ’12 needed just three points to hit the 1000 point plateau for his career; Josh hit a three point shot early in the game to hit the milestone and sent the packed gym into a frenzy.
