The Hill School's extensive athletic program will promote and perpetuate the School's educational ideals by "seeking ever to employ youth's eager zeal for strength as an instrument in building the complete Man" and the complete Woman. Athletics at Hill is a core educational experience because of the growth and maturity that results from mastering the primary opportunities of athletics, among them:
- Physical training and conditioning
- Skill development
- Team play
- Competition
- Enjoyment
- Development of character
- Community-building
As in all areas of school life, we guide and encourage students to pursue excellence in their athletic endeavors. Active participation is required in interscholastic sports at some point during all students' time at Hill, as competition at this level challenges them to do their best. There is a role for less-competitive athletics or training programs during a student's four years, but never to the exclusion of interscholastic sport. The fact that our athletes are first and foremost students will guide all our policies, nonetheless.
