Hillville Tours Charterhouse, Wins First Watch
Hillville3.2006.jpg

Having arrived in London from Scotland late the night before, Hillville very much looked forward to its visit to Charterhouse. The Hill's partner school in the UK, Charterhouse rolled out the red carpet for the visitors from the States. Steve Hearn, former Hill science instructor and current Charterhouse master, toured the group before pairing the boys up with Carthosians for lunch.

The soccer match on Charterhouse's picturesque main pitch was a tight affair. After failing to get the ball out of their own defensive end for 20 minutes, Hillville settled in and played as if they were familiar with one another instead of this being their first match together. Geoff Lynott '08 sent a perfect corner kick across the Charterhouse goal that Guin Kim '07 finished just before half time. Strong defensive efforts from all helped Hillville hang on for the 1-0 win in a match that could have gone either way.

Post-match tea and dinner was preceeded by an exchange of thanks and small school gifts.

Later, the group of new teammates gathered around the television to watch Champions League matches with passionate locals before calling it a night.

Hillville will spend Thanksgiving touring Windsor Castle in the morning and then go to Eton College for a tour, match, and evening with its Etonian friends.

Hillville Closes Tour, Beats Eton College

Hillville toured majestic Windsor Castle before walking downhill across the River Thames to historic Eton College for its final stop on this 2006 UK Tour. Eton’s tour guide took the group through the world’s oldest continuously used classroom (1410-present), Lower School, and before concluding in the cloister of its magnificent chapel. Lunch with the Etonians preceded the final match of the tour.

Chan Kwon ’07 was fouled in the box at the 60 minute mark and Lawrenceville’s James Mooney converted the spot kick to give Hillville a 1-0 lead. Each of the 12 healthy players had his best match of the trip to secure the victory and a perfect 2-0 record for the tour. In the last two tours Hillville is 4-0-1 with nine goals scored and only two conceded. Sam Blake ’08 played well in front of family and friends, and helped send the sixth formers out on a strong note. Elliot Muth ’07, Peter Griffin ’07, Adrian Ciacci ’07, Guin Kim ’07, Andrew Webb '07, and Hunter Gray ’07 couldn’t have enjoyed a finer ending to their scholastic soccer careers.

But soccer wasn't the sole focus of this trip -- it was the bonding between rival schools and chance to visit the finest schools.
