Here at The Hill School, we believe Hillness is comprised of three ingredients: hard work, discipline, and tradition. Our traditional dress code is a symbol of self-discipline. As noted by Headmaster David R. Dougherty, “A necktie pulled up or a jacket worn to class, a skirt only four-to-five inches above mid- knee or hats not worn in buildings are all artificial barriers or limits that remind you that you are not doing whatever pleases you or is most convenient; instead you are imposing a discipline on yourself which demonstrates the seriousness of your work and the importance of self-discipline in it. That dress code is a symbol of your self-discipline.”
