Under the direction of Headmaster David R. Dougherty, a dedicated team of Hill alumni, faculty, and administrators have developed this honorary hall and recognition program. Hill’s proud and enduring athletics tradition is one that merits celebration, and The Hill School Athletics Hall of Fame will appropriately and elegantly honor outstanding athletic achievement by Hill alumni, coaches, and teams. The Athletics Hall of Fame will spotlight the very best of the many remarkable individuals and teams from The Hill School’s storied past, linking the past to the present and inspiring current Hill student-athletes, coaches, and teams to further greatness.
Nominations will be made in one or more of the following categories: Player; Coach; Team; or Extraordinary Sports Achievement, in recognition of superior athletic or sports-related accomplishment by a Hill alumnus/alumna in his or her service to sport. In general, athletes must wait 10 years for Hall of Fame eligibility and teams must wait 15 years. The Trophy Room will continue to honor Hill athletics as well, but the Hall of Fame will be a more distinct and elevated honor from Trophy Room accolades.
In the inaugural year (2012), a special “Founders’ Hall” will be inducted for those uncontestable, legendary and/or posthumous coaches, alumni and Hill administrators that had significant impact on Hill athletics. The Founders’ Hall will be a one-time, distinct class induction in November 2012 and will complement the inaugural class. Both the Founders’ Hall and the “First Class” will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the November 2012 ceremony at The Red Meat Dinner on Lawrenceville Weekend.
