2011 Season Recap
Young Blues Bounce Back to State Final
Long-time coach
James “Doc” Finn began his 34th and final season in the dugout intending to position his successors for a strong year or two ahead—a new facility was under construction, former players and coaches returned to round out the coaching staff, and the young team wanted to get better each day. The impatience of youth accelerated that plan.
The Hill Blues may have opened the season with the youngest roster in the program’s history, but they concluded with the veteran results the program routinely posted in the 1980’s and 1990’s, namely championship runs. This run came up one game, or maybe even just one inning short, when The Hill fell 8-5 to Haverford School in the Pennsylvania Independent School State tournament. Overall, the 12-7 season was a positive step after posting three losing seasons in the past five years. The Blues emerged from a 6-4 inconsistent start to the season, to win six of their next seven and advance to the State title game. Highlights included a win over Brunswick School on Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, NY, and road wins against Pennington Prep, and arch-rival Lawrenceville.
