The 2012 Boys XC Team
The 2012 Hill boys’ cross country team was led by captains Colin Freilich ’13, Luke Andersen ’14, and Jordan Trout ’14. Jamie Powell ’14 and Preston Tietjen ’15, who joined the team after strong 2012 spring track seasons, along with newcomers Nick Pearson ’15 and Kaden Weaver ’13 added four strong runners that allowed the team to field a competitive top seven for each meet. Third formers Sean Allen and Max Shomber pushed for spots in the varsity lineup, and classmates Chris Gorycki and Will Bell constantly turned in strong performances in JV races, giving the coaching staff high optimism for the future. After several good performances at early-season Invitationals, the team’s hard work paid off with a team championship at the Harrier Invitational on October 6. The team turned in a third place finish at the MAPL Championship race, with Tietjen leading the way with a seventh place finish that earned him All-MAPL honors. After a good fall, we’re looking forward to watching runners continue to develop throughout the upcoming winter and spring track seasons.
Our coaching philosophy combines the latest scientific research in human physiology with team building, discipline, and good sportsmanship. Our runners work hard and meet their individual race and workout goals, while supporting and encouraging all of their teammates as they work towards their goals. These young men study their sport, know its history, its milestones, and its heroes. They understand the physiological processes that each type of workout emphasizes, and realize they have undertaken a lifetime sport that gives back exactly what they put in. The level of camaraderie and support is high, and though the workouts are strenuous, this team truly enjoys what it does
