About the Program
Hill School ice hockey has been a force in New England Prep School hockey for more than 30 years. As a Division I prep program The Hill plays against some of the top talent around the country. Out of our 27-game varsity schedule, 23 games are against New England Prep School opponents and four are against the top teams in the Mid-Atlantic region. This upcoming season we will take part in the St. George's Christmas Tournament, the Tabor Academy New Years Tournament, the Albany Academy Rider Cup, and the inaugural Hill Classic. All four of these tournaments are comprised of Division I New England Prep Schools, and they are scouted heavily by numerous professional, Division I and Division III college coaches. Furthermore, the Hall/Eccleston Arena, a multi-million dollar indoor facility on campus, holds nearly 500 spectators and features state of the art locker rooms for all players.
Head Coach
Hill’s head boys’ hockey coach Matt Mulhern, a native of Havertown, Pennsylvania, is entering his 9th season behind the bench. Prior to the Hill, coach Mulhern was the head coach for three years at Groton School in Massachusetts. Mulhern is a graduate of Boston College, where he was a four year letter-winner and a member of two Frozen Four teams. In 1999, Mulhern won the William J. Flynn Coaches Award while playing for BC and was a two-time All-Norton team selection during his career. After graduating from BC, Mulhern spent two seasons playing professionally in the East Coast Hockey League with the Jackson Bandits (1999-2000) and with the Charlotte Checkers (2000-2001).

Schedule Highlights:
The 2012-2013 varsity season kicks off on December 1 at Eccleston Rink against in-state rival Wyoming Seminary. Less than a week later the Blues will host Lawrenceville for the first leg of the traditional rivalry, where Hill will look to get the season off on the right foot.
Later in December, the team will see top notch tournament competition against strong New England foes at the Albany Academy, St. Georges, and Tabor Academy. Hill is set to face off against some of the top programs in prep hockey including Milton and Governor’s Academies, respectively.
Following the holiday season, Hill will finish up with a weekend series at Shady Side Academy and key home tilts against Delbarton and Brunswick. A definite highlight of the schedule will be a mid-February trip to West Point Military Academy where the Blues will face-off against New England powerhouse South Kent in a neutral site battle. Despite losing several key players from the 2011-12 squad, a solid group of returning players will look to mesh with talented newcomers to make for another successful season.
