After a highly successful 2010 campaign, the Hill Field Hockey Team is excited for the new challenges that the 2011 season offers. With many skilled and experienced players returning, the squad is no stranger to a high level of competition and the team certainly will rise to the occasion to compete with the same level of discipline and drive that it always has. The returning group is eager to bring a talented bunch of new players into the mix and to begin working under the guidance and leadership of new Head Coach Julie deLaurentis. The addition of new competition to the schedule also promises new excitement for the players and fans alike. Among other additions, for the first time ever, Hill Field Hockey will travel to Pittsburgh to face off against The Ellis School and Shady Side Academy. Also, at the end of the season Hill will compete in the inaugural Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools tournament.
2010 Recap
The 2010 Hill Field Hockey Team had another terrific fall, finishing the season with a record of 14-1. Through skilled and composed play, the 2010 squad outscored its opponents 74-9, posted 9 shutouts this season, and went undefeated at home. Led by co-captains Paige Haley ’11, Annie McLaughlin ’11, and Nicole Morris ‘11, the Blues were focused on putting together an up-tempo and skilled passing game this season. Early season wins against PA powerhouses The Academy of Notre Dame, Germantown Academy, and Episcopal Academy inspired confidence in the players as they set out in pursuit of another top-notch season. With a 3-0 victory over Lawrenceville on November 13 The Hill punctuated its successful run.
Since the program's inception, Hill players have gone on to compete at the Division I and Division III levels, including such schools as The University of Maryland, Wake Forest University, Colgate University, Fairfield University, Northeastern University, Lafayette College, Trinity College, Ursinus College, Dickinson College, and Wellesley College. Under the guidance of Coach deLaurentis (who was a field hockey player at Muhlenberg College) Hill field hockey players learn the work ethic, stick skills, and game savvy they will need to compete at the college level. Most importantly, though, all players learn the value of discipline and rigor while experiencing the fun and excitement of interscholastic athletics.
