New England Champions 2001
Eastern Prep Champions 2003, 2004, 2005, 2010
The girls' water polo program has had great success in its 12 years at Hill. Over this span, the team has amassed 176 victories. Based upon a foundation of fundamentals and a strong team-play concept, the program has won five titles, capturing the New England Championship in 2001, and winning the Eastern Prep Championship in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2010.The Rams have won 91 games over the past five seasons, and finished the 2010 campaign with a record of 22-2, the best in the history of the program. The 2011 team finished with a record of 16-10, and was led by Co-Captains Addy Colona '12 and Lyndsey Marcheskie '12.
The 2011 season was one of great growth for the Hill program. With a lot of new girls in the program, it took a while for the team to find their stride, as evidenced by their alternation of wins and losses over the first 14 games of the season. However, as the team built chemistry and learned the game, they ran off a 7-game winning streak in the middle of the season. At Eastern Preps, the team lost in the Semifinals to a very strong Penn Charter team, and finished in 3rd Place by defeating Germantown Academy.
The 2012 Girls' Water Polo team will return 11 girls from the 2011 Varsity squad. The team will be led by Tri-Captains Kara Beckman '13, Megan Konen '13 and Sarah Sovia '13. Hill will once again play a challenging schedule, including four tournaments. These will include the Spartan Splash (Wyoming Valley West), Beast of the East (various schools), Blue & Gold (Upper Merion) and the Eastern Preps (Episcopal)."The program will sorely miss the loss of the Class of 2012, and will have to find a way to replace the contributions of Addy Colona, Renee Donado, Tenny King, Lyndsey Marcheskie, Abby Mortimer, Maho Sakuma and Emma Woodcock.
2011 Award Winners:
Most Valuable Player - Addy Colona '12
Commitment Cup - Megan Konen '13
Over its history, the program has graduated alumnae that have gone on to play at the college level at Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Penn, Delaware, Washington & Jefferson, Maryland, The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Richmond, Villanova, Wagner, Connecticut College, Utica, Bowdoin, and Occidental, among others.
The Hill girls' water polo team always is looking for interested applicants who have a strong swimming and athletics background. Many of our best success stories have been basketball players who have played Water Polo as a fall sport. If you are interested, and would like to learn more, please contact Head Coach Tom Johnson at
