The girls' water polo program has had great success in its 13 years at Hill. Over this span, the team has amassed 190 victories. Based upon a foundation of fundamentals and a strong team-play concept, the program has won five titles, capturing the New England Championship in 2001, and winning the Eastern Prep Championship in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2010.The Rams have won 70 games over the past four seasons, and finished the 2010 campaign with a record of 22-2, the best in the history of the program. The 2011 team finished with a record of 16-10. The 2012 team finished with a record of 14-15, and was led by Captains Kara Beckman ’13, Megan Konen ’13 and Sarah Sovia ’13.
The 2012 season was one of great growth for the Hill program. With a lot of youth and inexperience, this team took some time to grow and build confidence together as a squad. In the process, they played the most challenging schedule that the program has ever faced, including contests with the two-time Ohio State Champions (Upper Arlington), seven of the top eight teams in Pennsylvania (including 2012 State Champ North Penn), and the New Jersey State Champion (undefeated Lawrenceville). Along the way, the team gained valuable experience that they will use when they try to reclaim the Eastern Prep title in 2013.
The 2013 Girls' Water Polo team will return 13 girls from the 2012 Varsity squad. The team will be led by tri-captains Liz Cossel ’14, Maddison Marcheskie ’14 and Gigi Tompkins ‘14. Hill, as always, will play a challenging schedule to prepare themselves for postseason play. The program will miss the loss of the Class of 2013. However, with 90 percent of the team’s scoring returning in 2013, the future looks bright for the Rams.
2012 Award Winners:
Most Valuable Player – Maddison Marcheskie ‘14
Commitment Cup – Kennedy Gallagher ‘15
Over its history, the program has graduated alumnae that have gone on to play at the college level at Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Penn, Delaware, Washington & Jefferson, Maryland, The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Richmond, Villanova, Wagner, Connecticut College, Utica, Bowdoin, Occidental, George Washington and Queens (Canada), among others.
The Hill girls' water polo team always is looking for interested applicants who have a strong swimming and athletics background.
