About the Program
Hill School ice hockey has been a force in New England Prep School hockey for more than 30 years. As a Division I prep program The Hill plays against some of the top talent around the country. Out of our 32-game varsity schedule 35games feature against New England Prep School opponents and five are against the top teams in the Mid-Atlantic region. This upcoming season we will take part in the Lawrence Academy Christmas Tournament, the Tabor Academy New Years Tournament, and the Albany Academy Rider Cup. All three of these tournaments are comprised of Division I New England Prep Schools, and they are scouted heavily by numerous professional, Division I and Division III college coaches. Furthermore, this season represents the fourth full season in the School’s new Hall/Eccleston Arena, a multi-million dollar indoor facility on campus. The new arena holds nearly 500 spectators and features state of the art locker rooms for all players.
Head Coach
Hill’s head boys’ hockey coach Matt Mulhern, a native of Havertown, Pennsylvania, is entering his sixth season behind the bench. Prior to the Hill, coach Mulhern was the head coach for three years at Groton School in Massachusetts. Mulhern is a graduate of Boston College, where he was a four year letter-winner and a member of two Frozen Four teams. In 1999, Mulhern won the William J. Flynn Coaches Award while playing for BC and was a two-time All-Norton team selection during his career at the University. Mulhern's hockey experience includes playing professionally with the Jackson Bandits (1999-2000), a former East Coast Hockey League team that was affiliated with the Chicago Blackhawks, and with the Charlotte Checkers (2000-2001), a current East Coast Hockey League team who is affiliated with the New York Rangers. 2009 – 2010 Boys Varsity Ice Hockey Season Preview

09 – 10 Schedule Highlights:
The 2009-2010 varsity season kicks off on December 4 at Eccleston Rink against two-time defending Pennsylvania State Champions LaSalle High School. Less than a week later the Blues will travel to Lawrenceville (December 9) for the first leg of the traditional rivalry, where the Blues will look to collect their fourth consecutive victory against the Larries.
Later in December, the team will see top notch tournament competition against strong New England foes at the Albany Academy, Lawrence Academy/Groton, and Tabor Academy tournaments. Hill is set to face off against some of the top programs in prep hockey including Cushing, Culver, and Governor’s Academies, respectively.
Following the holiday season, Hill will finish up with key tilts at Delbarton (2009 NJ State Champs), at Canterbury, as well as home games against Northwood and National Sports Academy. A definite highlight of the schedule will be a mid-February trip to West Point Military Academy where the Blues will face-off against New England powerhouse South Kent in a neutral site battle. This season looks to be a promising one with our number one goalie back between the pipes and a strong nucleus of senior leadership which should bode well for the 2009-10 season.
