Alumni, family gifts grace the Chapel
Designed by James Darrach, Hill class of 1893, the chapel, with its Romanesque-Gothic features, was the first building on campus of this architectural style. The interior of the chapel is adorned with beautiful fixtures that have been donated by alumni in honor of loved ones. Bronze memorial plaques engraved with the names of alumni line the walls of the chapel. The bell that rings in the tower today is the same one donated by the class of 1926 more than 75 years ago. Other chapel gifts donated by or in memory of alumni include the following:
- The interior lights were given in memory of Edith Romeyn Darrach, mother of a former Hill trustee, Dr. William Darrach, class of 1893.
- The burning lamp in the sanctuary is a memorial to Benjamin C. Plummer 26.
- In memory of M. Barry OMeara 39, his parents presented the School with the altar and Celtic cross.
- The chimes in the chapel tower were donated by Briggs S. Cunningham, Jr. 26 in 1950.
- On Easter Sunday 1939, the brilliant stained glass windows located in the apse of the chapel were presented by Frank DuPont 13 in memory of his brother, Eleuthere 20, and his parents, General and Mrs. T. Coleman DuPont.
- In 1947, the south window of the chapel was dedicated as a memorial to a former headmaster, Alfred G. Rolfe.
- Also in 1947, the beautiful Lectern Bible was donated by Philip H. Glatfelter 10 in memory of his son, William 36.
