Girls’ ice hockey in action!

The Hill School girls’ ice hockey team is a varsity level program, competing in the Women’s Interscholastic Hockey League of the Mid–Atlantic (WIHLMA). View the WIHLMA standings for the 2000-10 season. This year the team will host a tournament of club teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware in mid-December. The Lady Blues’ schedule is completed with games against local high school and club hockey teams.

The team is coached by Ms. Heather Olney, who took over as head coach in 2007 after being an assistant coach for two years. A goaltender at St. Paul’s School in New Hampshire and Union College in New York, Coach Olney looks forward to another great season. She is joined behind the bench by returning assistant coach Mark Nelson, a veteran coach in many sports.

Coach Olney and Coach Nelson will look to captain Jackie Massare ’10 and assistant captains Avery Lieberman ’10 and Victoria Gerberding ’10 to lead the team to another great season. They are joined by Jacky Braca ’10, Alexandra Peters ’11, and newcomers Katelyn Hutchinson ’13, Tori Trovato ’12, and Caitie Hope ‘11 promising another strong, competitive team this season. The Lady Blues are looking forward to continuing the strong tradition of success to which they have become accustomed.

Alumni from the girls’ ice hockey program are making news in the college hockey world. Recent graduates are playing and have played at Mount Allison University, New England College, Trinity College, Elmira College and Penn State University.

Hill also offers a “Varsity B” program for those players who are new to the sport. During the 2008-9 season, players in the Varsity B program practiced four days a week, working on their skills and learning the game.
