The Hill School softball program is one that has grown over the first fourteen years of coeducation. This program has rebuilt itself from the ground up, and is working hard to establish itself as a local power. The 2011 team was hampered by terrible weather, which severely limited the team’s ability to practice outside. The team ended the season with a record of 3-7. Despite the record, the team was much more competitive than in previous years, and is looking for a breakout year. The school finds itself in a hotbed of high school Softball, and the program is looking forward to capitalizing on the abundance of local talent.
The Varsity team plays approximately 18 games against highly competitive teams in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey areas. The Hill participates in the ultra-competitive Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) against Blair Academy, the Hun School, the Lawrenceville School, Mercersburg Academy, and the Peddie School. In addition, the team competes against great teams from both the Inter-Ac League and Friends League in the Philadelphia area. Through hard work and great team chemistry, the team is working towards their first MAPL Championship and first Pennsylvania State Title.
The 2012 team looks to build on the talented youth of the 2011 squad to continue to improve. Co-Captains Christina Bell ‘13 and Megan Ruane ‘13 will lead the young team, which includes just one sixth former, five fifth formers, three fourth formers and four third formers. We are always looking for strong female student-athletes that either have a strong Softball background, or enjoy the challenge of trying to master a new sport. The 2012 team will be coached by Tom Johnson, Heidi Eccleston, and Julie deLaurentis.
