Award-Winning Director and Women’s and Social Rights Advocate Robin Hauser to Deliver 2023 Commencement Address

The Hill School is pleased to announce that Robin Hauser, award-winning documentary director for Finish Line Films and champion of women’s rights and social justice, will deliver the Commencement address during the School’s 172nd Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 27, 2023.

Ms. Hauser’s ties to Hill extend three generations beginning with her father, W. Kurt Hauser ’56, former Hill Trustee; brother, the late William West Hauser ’81; son, Will Reynolds ’14; and nephew, Philip Winnick ’15.

Ms. Hauser is described as “engaging, insightful, and thought-provoking in addressing the most important socio-economic issues we face today.” Her documentary, $avvy (2021), contemplates the historical, cultural, and societal norms around women and money and explores why it's critical for women to take an active role in managing personal finance. Her film, bias (2018), delves into unconscious bias and how it affects our lives socially and in the workplace. In 2015, CODE: Debugging the Gender Gap premiered at Tribeca Film Festival, catching the attention of the international tech industry and of policymakers around the world. Ms. Hauser’s exploration into implicit gender and racial bias in artificial intelligence led her to present on the TED stage in December 2017 and she also delivered a TEDx talk in 2019 on "The Likability Dilemma for Women Leaders."

Ms. Hauser is a diplomat for the American Film Showcase; she speaks about financial literacy, unconscious bias, the importance of diversity and inclusion, and on behalf of women's rights at The White House, US Embassies, conferences, and corporate headquarters worldwide. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and Thunderbird School of Global Management.

“This milestone year marks 25 years of coeducation at The Hill, and we recognize and appreciate the contributions of the many women who paved the way for our current and future students,” said Interim Head of School Sylvia Rodríguez Vargas. “We are thrilled to welcome Robin Hauser, a trailblazer within the film industry whose life’s work echoes the Class of 2023’s commitment to inclusivity.”

The Baccalaureate service will take place at  9 a.m. in the Alumni Chapel followed by the Commencement ceremony on the Quadrangle, beginning at approximately 10:30 a.m.

We are excited to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of the Class of 2023 with family and friends. A livestream of the ceremony will be available via The Hill’s website.
