On December 16, 2023, The Hill School’s varsity girls’ ice hockey team defeated Dexter Southfield School 4-1 in their second of three games of the Dexter Southfield Holiday Tournament. This win not only advanced them to the championship game, but it also marked a significant milestone for Head Coach Ari Baum – his 150th career win.
Baum has been at the helm of the varsity girls’ ice hockey program since 2012. Under his guidance, the program has achieved league titles, participated in championship games, and witnessed numerous athletes extending their athletic careers into college. Baum leads the team with the support of Associate Head Coach Laura McConney and Assistant Coaches Sam Walther and Meghan Toomey.
Dexter Southfield School is a prominent independent member of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC). Annually, in December, the school hosts its girls’ ice hockey tournament, where schools across the East Coast participate in a competitive weekend of ice hockey.
Following the team’s 4-2 victory vs. Middlesex on December 15, Hill geared up to face off against Dexter Southfield the following day. Hill’s goaltender, Jaelynn Bucinell '25, showcased her remarkable skills executing 36 saves during the game. Charlie Rauch '24, all-time leading scorer in program history, achieved a hat trick while Anna Lloren '26 secured another goal, giving Hill the 4-1 victory, and notching Baum’s historic win.
The team advanced through to the championships and won 4-3 vs. Thayer Academy on December 17, crowning them the 2023 Dexter Southfield Champions. Later in the season, Hill hosted the annual Hill Girls’ Ice Hockey Invitational Tournament where they also walked away victorious with the championship trophy and ended their season with an impressive 21-8-1 record.
