Crew Team Erg-A-Thon To Benefit Charities

On Sunday, January 26, members of The Hill crew team (also known as the Hill School Boat Club) will participate in the team’s second-annual Erg-a-Thon from noon until 3:00 p.m.  in Mercer Field House.  Ergs are stationary rowing machines used to train throughout the offseason.  The distance each participant rows is determined by the amount of money donated in his or her name – the more money that is contributed, the longer that individual must row.

All monies raised during the event will be split between two charities.  The first is the Schuylkill River Greenways, whose mission is “to connect residents, visitors and communities to the Schuylkill River and the Schuylkill River Trail by serving as a catalyst for civic engagement and economic development in order to foster stewardship of the watershed and its heritage.”

Fifty percent of money raised will be contributed to a Go Fund Me account that has been created to cover medical expenses of the College of the Holy Cross women’s rowing team.  During a recent training trip to Florida, the team’s vehicle was involved in a serious accident that killed one team member and hospitalized several others.

People who wish to donate may do so with cash, check, or through the @HillSchoolBoatClub Venmo account.  Please specify which rower the money should go toward or if you wish to make a general donation, in which case the money will be randomly assigned.
