Dorsey Duo Named to All-State Basketball Team

In November, Caleb ’20 and Gabe ’21 Dorsey made Hill boys’ basketball history by becoming the first brothers to be chosen as team captains for a season.  Throughout the 2019-2020 campaign, Caleb and Gabe helped lead the Hill team on-and-off the court as Hill finished the season with an overall record of 18-8, reaching the final of the Mid-Atlantic Prep League Tournament and the quarterfinal of the Pennsylvania Independent School Athletic Association state tournament.  Additionally, both players earned First-Team All-MAPL and All-Area recognition, the only two Hill players to receive recognition on both post-season teams.

Although the basketball season concluded two months ago, the duo continues to make program history.  Both Dorsey brothers were selected to the Pennsylvania Class 4-A All-State teams; Caleb is a first-team selection and Gabe is a second-team selection.

Caleb graduates as the program’s career leader in rebounds, and no player has won more games in his Hill career than Caleb; Hill won 73 games throughout his four-year career.  During his fifth form year, Caleb led the team in scoring, rebounds, and assists, and this past season he averaged 11 points-per-game, eight rebounds per-game, and 2.4 assists per-game.

“Caleb should go down as one of the best Hill basketball players ever,” said Hill head boys’ basketball coach Seth Eilberg.  “Appropriately, he is our career rebound leader and that is something he did very well.  Caleb can impact a game in a ton of different ways, and he was almost always tasked with guarding the other team’s best player. He really committed to working hard on the defensive end and battled on the glass every game. A true student-athlete, we are very proud of Caleb’s personal development as a competitor and leader and look forward to watching him represent Hill with great pride at the highest level of college basketball.”

Next year, Caleb will continue his basketball career at Penn State University, joining a Nittany Lions team that was ranked as high as 9 in the NCAA Division I AP Men’s Basketball Poll during the 2019-2020 season.  It will be the first time since his third form year that Caleb will not have Gabe as a teammate.  Spending three years together in Gillison Gym, as well as many seasons playing AAU together, is one of many experiences Caleb cherishes from his time at Hill.

“I loved playing with Gabe,” Caleb said in an interview with Pottstown Mercury reporter Owen McCue. “He used to play up on travel teams with me, so that chemistry has been building for a long time. Any chance I get to play with Gabe, I thoroughly enjoy because he’s one of the best shotmakers I know. It makes my job easier being able to kick it to the wing or the corner, and he’ll knock it down.”

Gabe has already made his own impact on the program’s record books.  During his fourth form season, he set a program record for single-season three-point shots made when he drained 75 shots from beyond the arc.  He increased his own record by three this season and now also stands as the career record-holder for made three-point shots with one season remaining in his Hill career.  Gabe was the leading scorer on the 2019-2020 Hill team, averaging 15 points-per-game, and he also pulled in an average of four rebounds per-game.

“Gabe had a great season and has emerged into a special program leader,” Eilberg said. “He is an elite shooter, truly one of the very best in the country. What is most impressive is how much he has embraced improving defensively. In so doing, he has been able to really impact the game at both ends of the floor.”

His sharp-shooting has attracted the eyes of college coaches, many of whom have expressed interest in recruiting Gabe.
