Hill Softball Ends Historic Season as PAISAA Finalists, Second in MAPL
The Hill School softball team

The 2026 season marked a historic breakthrough for Hill Softball, as the program established itself among the region's top teams, finishing runner-up in both the Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) and the Pennsylvania Independent School Athletics Association (PAISAA) championships. Built on belief, resilience, and a commitment to one another, the Blues took a major step forward in the program's continued evolution.

Head Coach Elle O'Brien credited the team’s confidence and chemistry as the foundation for the program’s success.

“I think this season worked well because the players believed in themselves and believed in each other,” O’Brien said. “After the first couple of scrimmages in Virginia, where we played tight with some very good teams, the coaches and the players realized there was something special here. It really came down to, ‘We know how to play good softball, let’s go do it.’”

That mindset propelled Hill through one of the most successful seasons in program history, with contributions throughout the lineup and a culture that continued to strengthen as the season progressed.

Cheyenne Flamer '27 credited the team’s strong bond as the heart of everything the Blues accomplished this season.

“Play for the people next to you,” Flamer said. “With next year being my last year, I am hoping to win both MAPL and PAISAA championships. I am looking forward to playing one last season with the family I have made through Hill Softball.”

While the accomplishments of 2026 will be remembered, O’Brien believes the foundation for sustained success is already in place. A talented young core emerged as key contributors this spring, including Jia Patel '29, who impressed in the circle as one of the team’s rising stars.

“Jia Patel ’29 is just getting started in the circle,” O’Brien said. “Journey Kingwell ’28 and Willow Gall ’28 were big contributors both offensively and defensively. Those two support the culture of our program with their work ethic and dedication and are young leaders on this team.”

O’Brien also pointed to the leadership and experience of the rising sixth form class as a driving force behind the program’s transformation.

“I am excited for this rising sixth form class,” she said. “They are a talented group, and a handful are going into their fourth year with the program. For them to be here from the beginning and truly be a part of the evolution of Hill Softball is special. It all started with them.”

Despite the disappointment of falling just short in two championship games, the season’s ending has already fueled the team’s motivation moving forward.

“The 2026 season is only the beginning,” O’Brien said. “Being the runner-up in both MAPL and PAISAA stings for the returners. They are going to come out next February ready to go, ready to compete. Only in 2027, we won’t be waved off by our opponents.”

With a strong returning core, emerging young talent, and a culture built on belief and accountability, Hill Softball enters the future with momentum — and the expectation that this historic season was only the start.
