John Fath Named Head Tennis Coach

Hill School Director of Athletics and Co-Curricular Activities Seth Eilberg P'22 '23 '25 recently introduced John Fath as the School’s new Head Varsity Boys’ and Girls’ Tennis Coach. Fath joins The Hill after graduating in 2023 from The University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Neuroscience and Music.

“We are very excited to welcome John Fath to our Hill faculty,” says Eilberg. “In meeting Coach Fath, I was immediately impressed by his passion for the sport of tennis and his clear understanding of where it fits in our model of education-based athletics.”

“Our players will feed off his contagious energy, and I am confident that he will greatly support our players at all levels to reach their full potential as players and people,” continues Eilberg.

While attending Wissahickon High School in nearby Ambler, Pa., Fath coached the junior boys’ and girls’ teams (ages 4-18) at the Cedarbrook Country Club in Blue Bell, Pa. He graduated from Wissahickon High School in 2019, and in 2020, became Cedarbrook’s Junior Tennis Program Director. He served that position until the 2021 season during which he led the boys’ and girls’ teams to runners-up in the Philadelphia Suburban Interclub Junior League.

In addition to coaching the junior teams while in college, Fath also worked in adult programs and coached high school skills clinics and private lessons at Cedarbrook. He worked one-on-one during private lessons with high school athletes that attended schools such as Gwynedd Mercy High School, Wissahickon High School, and Germantown Academy, focusing on shot selection, strength, and confidence in groundstrokes, aiming shots, singles aggression and defense, doubles strategy, and serving workshops.

“I’m thrilled to work with Hill Tennis as the head coach because I can apply my experience to build community, hone tennis skills, and have fun with the talented players,” states Fath.

In addition to his coaching role, Fath will live on campus and teach mathematics.

Fath replaces Avi Vemuri, who had led Hill’s program since 2019. Fath is eager to build upon the already strong foundation of Hill Tennis with an experienced and talented coaching staff, including assistant varsity coach, Ira Watts.
