Kelvin Griffin '22 Named Pennsylvania Independent Schools Wrestling Tournament Champion

On February 18 and 19, 2022, The Hill School Wrestling team traveled to Mercersburg Academy to compete in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Wrestling Tournament (PAISWT). While the team finished 4th out of a 17-team field, Kelvin Griffin ’22 (138 lbs. weight class) became Hill’s first individual PAISWT champion since 2019.

Griffin beat Wyoming Seminary’s Kai Owens 6-0 in the semifinals to set up a bout between Malvern Prep’s S.P. O’Donnell in the final. O’Donnell came into the finals with momentum after pinning Western Reserve’s Sam Cartella, who is currently ranked #7 in the country. That didn’t faze Griffin as he controlled the match from start to finish, picking up two takedowns and a stall point to win 5-0.

He was crowned champion and was the #1 seed going into the National Prep Wrestling Championships the following weekend. Unfortunately, Griffin was forced to injury default out of National Preps after suffering an injury during his pre-match warmup before the semifinals and ended up finishing sixth place.

Griffin ends his impressive Hill Wrestling career as a 4-time National Prep All-American, PAISWT Champion, and the first-ever Hill wrestler at the Escape the Rock Tournament. He also clutched more than 100 career wins at Hill.

He will join Lehigh University’s wrestling team in the fall of 2022.
