The Hill School Begins 169th School Year

Shortly after 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, eager students emerged from dormitories across campus and headed toward their first period class. Within minutes, classrooms were filled and the first classes of the 2019-2020 school year, The Hill School's 169th, were underway.

Preparation for this academic year began well before September 3, of course. Student-athletes arrived for preseason athletics on Monday, August 19 (football) or Friday, August 23 (all other fall sports). Student leaders (SGA, Honor Council, prefects) arrived on Saturday, August 31; new students arrived on Sunday, September 1; and returning students followed on Monday, September 2. On Monday afternoon, the School held a "mini-class" day in which students attended each class for 10 minutes, allowing them to locate their classes, meet their teachers, and review course expectations prior to the first day of classes. After the mini-class day, the School community gathered in the Center For The Arts for the annual Convocation ceremony.

A total of 175 new students join The Hill community for the 2019-20 school year, with the School's opening day enrollment standing at 529 students. This year's student body includes young men and women from 32 states and 32 countries. Our diverse student body will benefit from eight new full-time faculty members (including two alumni), a group of talented educators who arrive at The Hill with a range of backgrounds and experience. Read more about each of these teachers.

A heartfelt "welcome home" is extended to all new and returning students, faculty, staff, and families – and we hope to see our alumni family back on campus soon, as well.
