The Hill School Boys' Track and Field Team Clinches Thrilling MAPL League Title

In what Head Coach Bill Yinger ’95 P’28 described as "one of the best years in quite some time," The Hill School boys' track and field team emerged victorious, claiming the top spot in the 2025 Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL). The team's triumph was nothing short of remarkable, with a well-diversified squad showcasing talent in every event.

Early highlights from the meet included impressive second and third place finishes in the discus by Jake Ayala ’25 and Nate Govan ’26, while first and third place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles by Trevon Foster ’26 and London Ezell ’26 contributed valuable points. A second-place finish by Matt McCullough ’26 in the 400-meter race set the stage for a dramatic turnaround.

At the mid-meet mark, The Hill School trailed by 38 points, sitting in third place. However, a surge in the 400-meter hurdles, led by Foster, Ezell, and Jaydon Robinson ’28, catapulted the team forward. A quiet yet significant contribution in the jumps (18 points) by Josh Ansu ’26 and a second-place finish in the vault by Collin Ditty ’26 further bolstered the team's standings.

A thrilling 800-meter race saw personal records for Ditty and Liam Mpofu ’26, while Foster and McCullough's first and sixth place finishes in the next event added much-needed points. Fourth (Richard Liu ’26) and sixth (Shane Duo ’26) place finishes in the 3,200 meters proved pivotal for the team. Unbeknownst to the crowd, Ayala and Govan earned a crucial 14 points by placing second and third in the shot put, positioning The Hill School ahead by four points with only the 4x400 relay remaining.

The team's anchor, McCullough, sealed the win with a blistering 49.6 split, holding off Lawrenceville's charge down the final stretch. This narrow victory marked the closest finish in MAPL history, with The Hill School edging out Mercersburg Academy by just two points.

As the team's most successful season in recent memory ends, The Hill School boys' track team can take pride in their remarkable achievement. Congratulations!
