The Hill School’s Student Philanthropy Council (SPC) recently awarded a total of $30,000 to 10 Pottstown-area nonprofits for the 2025-26 academic year. An awards ceremony was held on Friday, April 10, 2026, to recognize this year's recipients.
The SPC was created in 2008 through a gift to The Hill from the late Charles Frank III, Class of ’59, and his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Frank. The Franks’ goal was to encourage students to learn about the value and processes of philanthropy; develop life-long habits of volunteerism and “giving back;” and provide funds to nonprofits that enhance the lives of Pottstown-area residents.
Before the ceremony began, SPC Co-Chair Grace Carroll '27 acknowledged Mrs. Frank and her son, Garrett '88 P'27, who was in attendance; Garrett's son, Slater '27, is a member of the SPC. "The Franks’ ongoing passion for helping others and shaping the next generation of philanthropists is inspirational," remarked Grace. "Thank you, Mr. Frank, for your generosity and leadership."
This year, 26 applicants requested a total of $80,000, so the students had a challenging task as they worked through their decisions.
"Ultimately, we made our selections with several factors in mind," noted Grace. "We hoped to fund some relatively new programs that the SPC had not funded in the past. We also aimed to support a range of causes, from veterinary efforts and artistic preservation to education and mental and physical wellness. Our goal is to leave an impact on a variety of demographics within Pottstown – from very young children to senior citizens."
The following organizations received grants from the SPC: Animal House Project; Community First Development Corporation; Family Services of Montgomery County; Pottstown FARM – Farm & Artisan Regional Market; Girls on the Run of Southeastern Suburban PA; Pottstown Children’s Discovery Center; Reflections of Turtle Island, Inc.; The Carousel at Pottstown; Variety – the Children’s Charity of the Delaware Valley; YWCA Tri-County Area.
