On Saturday, March 23, 2024, the musical talents of The Hill School's a cappella groups, the Hilltones and Hilltrebles, took center stage at the Roxbury 32nd Annual Choir Invitational held at Roxbury High School in Succasunna, N.J. Amidst a competitive field of participants, both groups delivered a stellar performance that garnered them a Silver Rating in the Jazz/Pop Choir category.
The two a cappella groups put on a dynamic four-song set for this competition after weeks of preparation while four sixth form performers showcased their individual talents by competing in the solo division: Frankie Halvey '24, Emil Palacios Alvarez '24, Joy Booth-Genthe '24, and Devon Smith '24.
The Hilltones and Hilltrebles were the only groups in the competition to receive two Outstanding Soloist Special Awards. Payton Barth '25 and Emil Palacios Alvarez '24 received this distinction for their solos in “Hypotheticals” and “Infant Holy, Infant Lowly.” In addition, all four solo division students received Excellent Ratings and accolades from renowned clinicians who worked with them in each of their masterclass sessions.
