Each year, the Congressional Institute sponsors a high school Congressional Art Competition, the Artistic Discovery Contest, to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Pork Belly, an oil painting by Angela Jin ’24, was chosen as the overall winner of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition for the Fourth District of Pennsylvania. Shadow Walking, a photograph by Grace Capecci ’24, and Traffic Light, a photograph by Yina Yao ’25, were selected as runners-up in the competition.

On May 9, 2022, Angela, Grace, and Yina, along with the other district winners, attended at reception and art exhibit at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts hosted by Congresswoman Madeline Dean, the representative for the Fourth District of Pennsylvania. As a district winner, Angela will have her art displayed in the United States Capitol for one year. The artwork by Grace and Yina will be on display in Congresswoman Dean’s district offices.

Angela was awarded a Scholastic Art & Writing National Gold Medal for Pork Belly in April 2022. Earlier in the school year, she received two Regional Gold Keys in the 2022 Regional Scholastic Art Awards for Pork Belly as well as another painting, Forest, which classified her art as the very best work submitted in the Philadelphia region. Her work also was featured in the 8th Annual Tri-County High School Exhibition, which showcases the best of high school student work from Berks, Chester, and Montgomery counties.

Congratulations Angela, Grace, and Yina!
