Wallace Gundy '04 Named President-Elect of Alumni Association

Throughout the past year, The Hill School celebrated the 20th anniversary of coeducation.  The celebration culminated at a special reception during Reunion Weekend. Following welcoming remarks by Alumnae Society President Ali Jacobs Greenly ’07 and a special video message from Headmaster Emeritus David Dougherty and Faculty Emerita Kay Dougherty,  Headmaster Zachary G. Lehman P’16 ’18 announced Wallace Gundy ’04 as the first female President-elect of The Hill School Alumni Association.  Wallace currently serves as the vice president of the Alumni Association and will take over as president in June 2021.

Below is what Headmaster Lehman said about Wallace and her commitment to The Hill during the reception:

Wallace and her brother, Mac, Class of 2008, were “fac-brats” growing up.  Her father, Jay, was the longtime Director of Development and her mother, Kim, worked in the College Advising office.  In her four years as a Hill student, Wallace did just about everything one can do: she was a prefect, editor-in-chief of the Dial, president of the Ellis Theatre Guild, co-head of the Reception Committee, a member of the Spiritual Life Committee, a Big Sister, and a member of both the varsity field hockey and squash teams.  The class of 2004 chose Wallace for two superlatives: First to Teach at Hill, and Jane Hill.

After graduating from The Hill, Wallace attended the University of Virginia, where she earned a B.A. in English Language and Literature.  She immediately returned to the boarding school world, joining the Admission Office at Portsmouth Abbey School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.  She worked at the Abbey from 2008 until 2018, and she recently completed her first year at the University of Rochester’s Simons Business School, where she is pursuing her M.B.A.

If I may backtrack, I forgot to mention one accolade from Wallace’s time as a Hill student.  At the 2004 Commencement ceremony, Wallace received a pair of special prizes: The Archibald R. Montgomery Award, presented to that sixth former who has demonstrated the greatest friendship and personal concern for fellow students; and the Nicolai H. Hiller, Jr. Memorial Prize, awarded annually to that member of the School who best exemplifies the Spirit of Exemplary Effort and Loyal Service to Fellow Students and the School.  Wallace’s affinity for The Hill was just as clear then as it is now, and it is especially fitting that, 15 years after she received an award for Loyal Service to the School, Wallace will serve as president of the Alumni Association.
