Meet Zachary G. Lehman P'16 '18, The Meigs Family Head of School

A past Hill parent himself, Head of School Zack Lehman P'16 '18 knows the positive impact of The Hill experience. He holds a long list of accomplishments and a busy schedule, but you’ll still find him greeting every student by name.

Zachary Gimbel Lehman is the School’s 11th head of school. Since arriving in July of 2012, Zack has worked, as he says, to make The Hill “the most traditional and most innovative boarding school in the country."

With the support of loyal alumni, parents, and friends, Zack’s tenure at Hill has already included a $16 million renovation and expansion of our historic Dining Hall, the construction of 11 new faculty homes in the East Campus Faculty Village, the renovation of the Levis-Alexandre Center for Humanities, and installation of two new turf fields, a new track, a new soccer pitch, and the Lehrman Pavilion at the Far Fields. He has spearheaded technology enhancements and the construction of a professional quality electronic media studio, and he has helped to drive a wide-ranging curriculum review.  He supports revitalization efforts in our community through the Hobart’s Run initiative, as he understands Pottstown’s role in attracting and retaining both outstanding students and a phenomenal faculty. Zack also has led the creation of a new Campus Master Plan focused on preserving, unifying, enhancing, and stewarding Hill’s iconic campus, specifically the Shirley Quadrivium Center, a new world-class facility to house the School’s STEM curriculum.

“The students at Hill define the School's true character - they seize opportunities, embrace diversity, champion integrity, and value hard work.”

Although he is an enthusiastic and active ambassador for The Hill around the globe, Zack is a strong presence on campus and he makes it a point to know every student and faculty member on a personal level.

Zack’s wife, Amy, is also on The Hill’s faculty, serving as a leadership coach for Hill prefects and as our director of partnership programs. They reside on Hill's campus with their children, Mitch, Hill class of 2016; Griffin, Hill class of 2018; and Avery; as well as their dog, Reuben, who is well loved by our students!

More about Mr. Lehman

Zack came to The Hill after serving for six years as the assistant head of school for advancement at Gould Academy, a coeducational 9th through 12th grade and postgraduate year boarding school in Bethel, Maine. At Gould, Zack also taught filmmaking, was the head coach for the boys’ varsity lacrosse team, was an academic student adviser, and worked in the dormitories. From 2000 to 2006, Zack was the founding executive director of MetroLacrosse, a not-for-profit community organization that provides integrated lacrosse and character education programs to youth from underserved urban communities in Greater Boston and today has a national presence. Prior to leading MetroLacrosse, Zack was an attorney at Ropes & Gray and previously clerked for the chief judge of the United States District Court in Boston.

A magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School, Zack also distinguished himself at Dartmouth College, where he earned a B.A. degree in geography, with cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa distinctions. At Dartmouth, Zack played varsity lacrosse and football; was an Academic All-American in football; and, as a Senior Fellow, produced an animated film that earned a Student Academy Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Prior to Dartmouth, Zack attended Phillips Exeter Academy for four years, where he played three varsity sports, was a prep school All-American in wrestling, and was graduated with high honors.
