Addisyn Baird ’27 Signs with Women’s Professional Baseball League’s Los Angeles Queens

On September 3, 2026, Addisyn Baird '27 made her Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL) debut with the Los Angeles Queens, recording a hit, a walk, and a run. Baird’s journey with the WPBL began last winter when she was drafted by the Queens in the sixth round, while in the middle of a Hill ice hockey game. She received the call in late August to join the Queens for the remainder of their season. The team defeated the New York Heights in the semifinal series. Baird and the Queens will compete in the championship series, scheduled for September 16 -22, 2026, against the San Francisco Firebells.

Update: Addisyn and the Los Angeles Queens won the first-ever Women’s Professional Baseball League’s championship! They defeated the San Francisco Firebells 2–0 in the decisive fifth game of the championship series on Tuesday, September 22. Addisyn also the only high school student playing in the league. Read more here.

This opportunity is the latest chapter in Addisyn’s impressive athletic journey, as she has played both baseball and softball throughout much of her life while also competing in ice hockey. At Hill, she has become a major contributor to the softball and girls’ ice hockey programs while continuing to pursue baseball, often practicing with the varsity and JV baseball teams.

“Addisyn is a great athlete and was a catalyst for Hill Softball’s success in 2026,” said Head Softball Coach Elle O’Brien. “She is a humble player with a team-first attitude, even playing out of her preferred position to catch for Hill all season. She is not only a great player, but a great person who wants to work hard, and have fun doing it.”

Baird’s athletic pursuits are only part of her Hill experience. A strong student-athlete, she is also excited to serve in a leadership role at the School as a dormitory prefect.

“What is most noteworthy to me about Addisyn’s accomplishments is that they are all interconnected,” remarked Head Girls’ Ice Hockey Coach Ari Baum. “She is a better hockey player, by putting time and effort into excelling at softball, while also dedicating such clear energy to her classwork. In a sports world where there are fewer and fewer examples of true student-athletes, Addisyn Baird has proven something extremely important.”

Her baseball coaches have seen those same qualities translate to the diamond.

“Addisyn’s focus and commitment to fundamentals are always fun to watch as a coach,” noted Head Baseball Coach Ed Turner P'30. “She fields well, throws well, makes hard contact, and is very coachable. I wish we had 10 of her.”

Despite adding professional baseball to her résumé, Baird remains committed to the path toward becoming an NCAA student-athlete, with aspirations to continue competing in ice hockey and softball at the collegiate level.
