Students in The Hill School's Woodworking classes and Jazz Ensemble enjoyed the day off campus visiting Martin Guitar in Nazareth, Pa., on Friday, April 10, 2026. For more than 180 years, Martin Guitar has crafted some of the finest guitars and strings in the world.
During an in‑depth factory tour, the students learned every step required to make a Martin guitar and discovered it takes nearly three months to complete just one instrument. They also visited the museum, where they explored the company’s rich history, exceptional craftsmanship, and the many artists who play Martin guitars and ukuleles.
On view in the museum was the D‑3 Millionth Guitar, which celebrates the “& Co.” in Martin’s name—the people behind its legacy. Unveiled at the 2025 NAMM Show, the design mirrors a tree’s cross‑section, with sycamore, gold, and diamond details marking key milestones in the company’s 192‑year history. It is a stunning tribute to the past, present, and future of Martin Guitar.
According to Athey Family Master Teacher of the Arts Diane Deery P'21 '23, "Students walked away with a deep appreciation for the craftsmanship behind these beautiful instruments. We thank our alumni donor for making this memorable experience possible!"
