The Hill School is pleased to announce that Dawn Evans '03 will return “home” to Hill, this fall to lead the School’s girls’ water polo team. Dawn joins The Hill from North Penn High School in Lansdale, Pa., after serving as an assistant coach for the boys’ and girls’ water polo programs. Prior to North Penn High School, Dawn spent three years with the North Penn Aquatic Club as a coach and five years with the Naval Academy Aquatic Club in Annapolis, Md., as a coach and camp administrator.

Evans replaces Hill Athletics Hall of Fame member Mark Nelson P'10 '13, who has served as head coach of the program since 2018. Nelson will retire in May after 44 years of coaching and teaching at Hill. Evans is thrilled to continue building upon the already strong foundation of The Hill Girls’ Water Polo program alongside the talented staff of Jen Edleman and Sara Vukas.

“With her various coaching and playing experiences and a full understanding of the unique context of coaching in a boarding school, Coach Evans is well-suited to support our student-athletes in and out of the pool,” says Wilbur C. Riley Director of Athletics and Co-Curricular Activities Seth Eilberg P'22 '23 '25. “She is very excited to return to her alma mater in this new capacity.”

During Evans’ time at Hill, she was a member of the girls’ water polo and swimming teams, serving as a captain of the girls’ water polo team her sixth form year. She continued her water polo career with the NCAA Division I University of Maryland Terrapins where, in 2007, she earned her B.A. in American Studies.

“As a 2003 Hill graduate, I am excited to return to The Hill community as the head girls’ water polo coach,” Evans states. “Many of my fondest memories are from my time at Hill, and most of those involve my teammates. I look forward to working with this generation to continue the legacy that Hill Athletics has built. I’d also like to thank the School’s leadership team, Athletics Department, and all the other support staff in entrusting me with this position.”

Please join us in welcoming Dawn back “home” to The Hill this coming School year.
