The rosters for the 2023 U.S. U-16 and U-18 Women’s National Field Hockey Teams were announced on February 8, 2023. Four Hill School field hockey players were selected to represent the United States on a national stage. Sofia Ferri ‘26, Abigail Gerdeman ‘26, and Aubrey Turner ‘25 were named to the U.S. U-16 Women’s National team. Maggie Kondrath ’23 was named to the U.S. U-18 Women’s National Team.

All four student-athletes attended a three-day training camp held in Davidson, North Carolina where they were evaluated by the USA Field Hockey’s Women’s Junior High Performance Staff. Coaches finalized their rosters based on their assessments of players at the camp.

“I was very exciting walking into the USA training camp,” Duke University field hockey commit Kondrath expressed. “It was an amazing opportunity to play with such talented athletes and for such great coaches. I am looking forward to the upcoming training camps in the next coming months, and I am so excited to be a part of the U-18 National team.”

Excited is an understatement for Turner. “I was so ecstatic when I found out I had the opportunity to try out for the squad and even more excited when I made the team!” she says. “Also, I am so grateful to have my coaches who made this possible. Special thank you to Coach Dubs, Coach Gomez and HFHF (Hill Field Hockey Forever)!!”

For Gerdeman, competing on an international stage is a childhood dream come true. “I feel extremely proud and humbled to be able to represent my country at a high level of field hockey,” she notes. I am thankful and owe so much to my coaches, family, and friends.”

Ferri is honored and thankful to be selected and she is grateful for the support she has received throughout this process. “I feel as though I wouldn’t be on this team without my teammates, coaches, and most importantly my family,” she reflects.

Kondrath, Turner, Ferri, and Gerdeman have their next training camp at Queens University of Charlotte in Charlotte, North Carolina from March 10 to 12 where the coaches will select the traveling squads for their international tours. The U.S. U-16 National Team will head to France in the beginning of April to play in a Four Nations Tournament while the U.S. U-18 National Team will travel to Belgium for matches against some of the country’s best men’s and women’s teams.
